London Bridges Falling Down – 19
Mandatory sentencing – I support minimum sentencing, and community service. Extenuating circumstances surround each case, let the judges use their better judgement.
Digital privacy – If you open it up to the government, you open it up to the world. It’s a Pandora’s box. Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden, Wikileaks, hacking, etc.
Personal security must be kept perfectly private, i.e. no back door for the government.
Net neutrality – Like the highways, airways, and waterways, it all must remain neutral. Otherwise it will impede progress.
Budget cuts to Medicare and Obamacare – We have a moral obligation to help people.
The only way to bring down costs is to regulate and have mandatory coverage of everyone. Nobody wants to pay for health insurance until they need it.
Robots take your job – Jobs will always flow downhill (financially) to those who will accept the least pay. India outsource programming jobs. China, Korea, Philippines, etc, manufacturing. Why would an American want to cling to a dirty and dangerous job like coal mining when they can make more money and be safer as a tech worker?
I recently had an interaction in social media where somebody blamed mainstream media for contributing to terrorist activities. They claim that terrorists utilize the main stream media because the media sensationalizes events such as terrorist attacks. I tried to state the fact that mainstream media simply follows a capitalist model of generating revenue based on ads and sponsors. If it bleeds it leads is true. Also tabloid journalism sells. Any news articles about celebrities is eaten like candy.
Anytime there is a terrorist attack, the conservatives come out of the woodwork and rattle their sabers about how dangerous the world is that we live in. They want to fortify the walls and arm themselves to the hilt. Withdrawing themselves from life is a loss not a win. If you let the terrorists terrorize you through the news than they have won. Sadly, we live in a world where terrorist activities have become Commonly occurring events.
The London bridge terror attack was a horrible incident. However, it could have been worse. None of the terrorists had guns. They used a vehicle and knives as their weapons. Imagine if they had guns such as the gun used by the Pulse Night Club shooter. A single shooter in Orlando killed 49 people. Imagine how many people 3 terrorists could have killed if armed with firearms. The London bridge attack is a terrible tragedy. However, it could have been worse. Strict UK gun laws probably saved many lives by disarming the terrorists of the potential firearms they could have carried into the attack.
Open carry – Guns don’t kill people, but they sure make it easy. Good guy with a gun fallacy.
Benjamin Franklin once said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
OK, so Ben Franklin’s quote may not have meant exactly how it is frequently used today. However, I like this interpretation so I’m using it this way! http://www.npr.org/2015/03/02/390245038/ben-franklins-famous-liberty-safety-quote-lost-its-context-in-21st-century
